🧩 Function of the Encoder Strip:

• Tracks Printhead Movement:

  • The encoder strip is a clear or semi-transparent plastic strip with fine, evenly spaced markings (like a barcode).

  • It runs horizontally behind the print head carriage.

• Provides Position Feedback:

  • As the print head moves back and forth (side to side), an optical sensor on the printhead reads these markings.

  • This tells the printer exactly where the print head is at any given moment, ensuring precision in droplet placement.

• Maintains Print Accuracy:

  • Prevents misalignment, banding, or blurred prints by keeping the print head on track.

  • Ensures proper registration of colors and detail, especially important for detailed designs and multi-pass printing.

⚠️ If the Encoder Strip is Dirty or Damaged:

• Symptoms may include:

  • Horizontal lines or banding

  • Misaligned prints

  • Print head crashing or erratic movement

• Cleaning with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol can often resolve issues.

• Never touch it with your fingers—oils can interfere with the sensor.
